    Coming from a bike rider that has done the cape dozens of times, great show. 2026 is my next trip there. To up date with the second plane wreck... (ford bomber) it was sitting at the air strip when Japanese zeros flew in and strap the airport with their machine guns damaging the plane beyond repair. After removing usable parts from the plane they place the wreckage out where it sits now. PS... half way along the dumped fuel drums there is a cock pit of a kitty hawk. Half way between the airport and the east coast is another kitty hawk plane wreck in mangrove swomp area surrounded by land mines still today. (Restricked area)

    I wonder if you might find you don't need those 1/4" extension bars.... Seems the usual reasoning is "to get at those tricky hard-to-reach fasteners" but in my experience the designers appear to be making life easier for mechanics in that everything is easier to reach than in the good old days. Worth having a canter around the bike trying to find if you do indeed have any hard-to-reach fasteners that you would tackle on the trail. My DRZ cylinder head bolts are easier with a 4" extension but no way I'm going to be doing that in the field, so it stays on the bench at home ...

    My shims sit so deep in the cup that I cannot get the measurement tool to fit properly. Does this mean my valves need to be replaced?

    • @Shadower75
      @Shadower75 4 місяці тому

      I remove the shims to measure them with a micrometer or vernier calipers, but before doing that you need to check your value clearances so you know if you need to alter your shims etc. Cheers mate.

    This might be a dumb question, but why did you change the gap from minimum to maximum? Wouldn't the shims/rockers/valves wear out over time increasing the gap anyway?

    • @Shadower75
      @Shadower75 4 місяці тому

      Too tell the truth mate, i'm not sure but I think I would rather closer to maximum then minimum. Thanks for watching though. Cheers

    • @Gex121
      @Gex121 4 місяці тому

      I actually got the answer from my local bike shop. The reason is that as the valve wears out the spring pulls it deeper into the seat, this make the valve stem lift higher, pushing the other side of the rocker lower, and that is why shims have to decrease in size over time. @@Shadower75

    When I crossed the Daintree in a 4wd after a week of rain, the water was up to my bonnet, and my bonnet is high, patrol with 35" tires, how would you guys have managed if the river was that high? Or do you pick trips when the river is low? I actually seen a group of riders while I was there, not sure how they crossed the river

    • @Shadower75
      @Shadower75 4 місяці тому

      Good question, we certainly try and ride when the rivers are crossable on bikes and if not then you need to find go arounds or change the route. That said, the guys and I have all toyed with the idea next time we hit a swollen river or creek we want to float them across using bush know how. Certainly would make for a cool vid. Cheers mate

Hardest track I ever did - lost gear, injured myself, nearly ran out of water - but I made it after two days. Not bad for a 60yo unfit fool. Strongly recommend don’t do this one alone…

      As the video says, brick piers core filled with MPA40 concrete and the right size reo bar. Not dangerous one bit when done correctly. Might need some glasses next time when watching..... lol cheers

    Great video. How long did the old coach road take you all up on the bikes mate?

      Hey Mark, thanks for watching mate. Unfortunately we didnt do all of the OCR as we had some bike troubles however I've been informed you could do it in a day or 2 if you want to camp along there somewhere. Cheers
